Perhaps the most famous gold coin of the Russian Empire, featuring the portrait of Nicholas II on the obverse and the coat of arms on the reverse, with a denomination of 10 rubles, became a symbol of autocracy. A vast number of these coins were minted, making them a primary target for hoarding during the time of the Civil War. They were minted annually from 1898 to 1904, and then in 1906, 1909, 1910, and 1911. According to unofficial information, they may have been produced even in the 1920s for international transactions.
